Boxing Kangaroo - A short history

In 1983 a Western Australian yacht shocked the world by winning the America’s Cup from the USA ( New York Yacht Club). Australia Two snatched the auld cup which the American’s perceived as permanently their property, having held it 132 years since the regatta began in August, 22, 1851.

Although Pennant House wasn’t the designer of the “Battle Flag” of the Boxing Kangaroo symbol flown on the winning Australia Two yacht. History proves we were the first to manufacture the flags commercially. This license remained with us until the Fremantle Challenge Regatta in 1997. For some years a Melbourne flagmaker held sway with the famous flag and then in 2000 the licensing rights went to the Australian Olympic Committee for the games. They hold major copy rights to it today, though now the Boxing Roo has fought it's way back to Pennant House and we are again, suppliers to the world!
