Increasing Flag Lifespan

Did you know that Perth is the third windiest city on earth? Our flags are made in Perth, with these weather conditions in mind. We use quality, military strength fabric that can sustain this environment for use throughout the world. Below are ten practical pointers that can increase the life of your flag.

  1. Don't store the flag wet. Hang it out to dry before storing.
  2. Flying a flag 24 hours a day will reduce the flags life. Test have shown that constant flying will cause the flag to last one fourth as long as one flown only in daylight hours.
  3. Our flags are washable. Washing the flag will help to keep the colours radient.
  4. Don't expose your flag to extreme wind and weather conditions.
  5. At the first sign of wear on the fly-edge (the flapping end furtherest from the staff) bring it to us for an inexpensive repair. This will increase the life span remarkably.
  6. Be sure your flag can fly in clear air. Ensure it isn't brushing on trees, walls or other rough surfaces.
  7. Service the flagpole. Keep the surface clear of rust and other corrosive nasties that will spoil the look of your flag.
  8. Never fly a tattered or badly faded flag. This is considered poor protocol.
  9. Keep an eye on the halyard (rope) on your flagpole. If signs of wear appear, change it by pulling a new halyard through with the old before it falls at your feet! Pennant House also offer a Flagpole Cherry Picker service.
  10. How long should a flag last? There is no exact answer. Your flag is at the whims of the weather, though good care will contribute greatly to longer life.
